Wales w/e 10/11th March

We are hoping to be running a club trip one day this weekend (10th/11th March) to Wales.

The minibus *should* be back with us this Wednesday, so we can start running trips regularly again!

This trip is aimed at all club members.

yeah, ill come along,

ps. what was wrong with the uni forum?
Andy

This one allows us much more control over what the forum can do.

We can have mutliple forums, one for trips, one for banter etc.
We can edit posts.
We can have polls.
You don't have to be a member to post or view it.
It is a much more stable site than the guild one.

would it not be worth waiting to see what rivers are on for the weekend. I heard a rumour that devon will have more rain than north wales?
Andy

Jethro

Do you not do ANY work???

The problem with Devon is it is a long way to travel for a day, and as it is the last weekend on the Dart, the area will be heaving - not necessarily the place for a novice trip.

Andy
J-ro

what are we doing then , aberglaslin?

and your a fine one to talk about doing work. how much did you do last year?
Andy

Don't know which River(s) yet, depends completely on the water level and who is coming. A decision will have to be made nearer the time.
One possibility is something like the Conwy, which has a couple of sections of varying difficulty.

If you are bored, take a look the rivers section of UKRGB, and let me know what you think.

The trip this weekend is more than likely going to go ahead on Saturday rather than Sunday.

If required, I am sure floor space can be found here if any 'Olde People' would like to join us for a few beveages on friday night...

Andy

Trip details

Guys,

We are meeting at the store at 9 o'clock on Saturday morning.

As for rivers, we could look at the Llugwy, from Pont Cyfyng; the Llugwy above Pont Cyfyng; the Tryweryn to Bala; the list goes on...

Andy
J-Ro

dude, only problem with the trip to bala is we're supposed to pay for the use of the tryweryn.

my vote would be the section of water above pont cyfing, then pont cyfing after ive got used to my boat. that is the bit with conway falls isnt it?
Andy

Jethro,

I was thinking about running straight through the centre section, and then carrying on all the way to Bala.

At the moment, I am thinking of possibly the Dee, where we can play on serpents tail, then Mile End Mill, before culminating with Town Falls.

I have just spoken to Martyn, and he keeps mentioning 'the gorge', so we will have to have a chat later.

We're back!

Well, that was certainly an interesting trip....!!!

All the freshers' seem to enjoy practice their 'all in' swimming technique, and then there was a small amount of carnage at the end, where out of 14 of us on the water, 5 people all took the decision to swim on the same rapid!!! That lead to a bit of a rescue effort, but thankfully, everyone got out ok, and as far as I am aware, all the kit was recovered, thanks to mammoth efforts from everyone remaining in their boats.

Only downer on the trip was the Gloucestershire uni guys car getting broken into whilst we were on the river.

Maybe a fuller report will appear, but with no Steve on the trip, not too sure who is going to write it.

Thanks to everyone who came and helped today, it was much appreciated.

Andy
J-Ro

are you sure it was only 5 people swimming? it felt like a lot more than that at the time!! have you updated the swim tally, martyn may have dropped a few places since before the weekend!!!

I eventually got home at midnight, after several stops at services to put more water in my car, think its going to have to go to the garage on monday. even more money down the drain. what a bummer.
Andy

I could only remember 5;

Sion,
Matt,
Lu,
Joe,
(guy from Goloucestershire in tiny boat - Chris?)

Nope, there was Claire swimming too, so that makes six - only half the group!

Andy
stepheneagles

gutted I missed the trip guys - sounds pretty awesome. I'll update the swim tally tommorow (too tired to do it now). from what I heard at the pool tonight the swims are as follows:

Shag em gets 2
Timmy 1
Catalogue 2
Claire 1
Lu 2
Matt 3

Technicals:

Martyn 1

does that sound about right guys??????!!!!??? Catalogue vaguely tried to dismiss one of his swims but I don;t think there were any other arguments.

lookin forward to the report girls (send it aston times too as they will print absolutely anything we write at the moment)

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
timmy

lu argued aswell because she didnt hear about the weir but andy didn't seem to impressed with this excuse when I mentioned it to him lol. but catalogue doesnt even have the same reason!!! he swam before the weir....
Claire

is there ever a situation where a swim would not count?? I think Lu was trying to argue with Martyn that neither of her swims should count.
By the guys swimming over a weir is not a good thing to do Sad
