Story so far...What a day it has been! Martyn, Joe, Steve, Nick, Emma and myself left birmingham early this morning heading for North Wales and the rain that is supposed to have been falling. On inspecting the Conwy and finding a at 7 on the guage we knew there would be some good levels to be had. Straight to the Ogwen and ogwen bank falls looked good to go. I ran it first without issue, followed swiftly by nick, again without issue. This is where martyn's day started to go downhill. He did the majority of it upside down having messed up the entry. Everyone enjoyed the rest of the run down to the a5 bridge for the get out. All except for nick who took a dip during the second half of the run. From here we headed to the lower Arddu. It turned out that with water in, it is a serious undertaking. Martyn won the spoof to go first and ended up swimming out of the powerful stopper of the first fall. Successfully rescued, I decided to run it. Ran the top fall backwards and spent the next few mins trying to escape the very small eddy at the bottom whilst trying to avoid the nasty stopper that got martyn. Having escaped that and caught my breath I ran the second fall. Getting the line, I still ended up stuck in another little eddy at the bottom, spending another few mins trying, and succeeding, at escaping. What a day! Everyone took at least one roll on the ogwen, and nick and martyn both owe the rest of us swim beers.
There are some good videos and photos that will be posted, along with a full report, after we return to a land with considerably less sheep!
