Post-exam piss-up...

What are people's views on a bit of a get-together one weekend in Brum after the slackers have finished their exams? It would be good to see everyone before you disappear to your placements etc or jetting off to the other side of the world.

It would also provide an opportunity for everyone to get pissed together!!

When do exams finish? Who would be up for it?

Andy
pittende

think everyones finished by the 3rd, I think that wud b a really good idea. on the 3rd me and jro hav the grad ball.... we hav been tryin to organise like a weekend in wales to go surfin but it is really difficult cus of everyones exams and logistics wiv boats if it was afta end of term so we'll carry on thinkin. term officialy ends on the 15th. so thres a coupolke of weekends where we cud do somethin and think that wud b really gd.

What u thinkin andy??

Emma xxx
Anne-Marie

The weekend of the 15th June would probably be the most logistical as end of term parties will have been done and dusted by then. I love Em's idea of a urfing weekend; get a couple of BBQs on the go, some volleyball etc - well done Em! But, I think Muppet's flying off into the etha at the end of May tho - so peraps a pre-weekend away piss-up for him.
Am very excited about post exam plans though!
Andy

I am liking the idea of a surfing weekend. I have just remembered that thtere is one weekend in June that I cannot make - but at the moment I have no idea which weekend. I will take a look when I get home next.

Will people still around on the weekend after the end of term, or will people have left by then?

Can someone at uni find out how much interest there is for a weekend such as this? I will contact the old boys to see if any of them are intereseted.

Good luck with all your exams everyone.

Andy
Anne-Marie

Basically Nick, J-Ro, Emma and I are definitely up for it and last time we spoke to Shagem and Catalogue they were too, so would be good to have an old boy contingent aswel! Let us know!
Andy

I propose the weekend of the 15th for the surfing weekend. I have spoken to a few people who have shown interest.

In order to get an idea of numbers, who is up for a surfing trip that weekend?
Emma

Me and Jro are... sounds gd!!! problem may be that ppl that live on campus (muppet, nick,am,me,jro etc)need to get out of there rooms by the 15th I think, need to put stuff somewhere or take it home b4hand. when do u get kicked outa canalside cud we dump at urs???/ xxx
J-Ro

yeah, im up for it. just thought id let everyone know I can speak for myself as well

sounds like a quality plan. basically just go down to a beach somewhere and get drunk, sleep on the beach!!!!
Anne-Marie

Will be there with bells on!!!
Emma

Hey,

just got a text from joe, he says he probably wont be able to make that weekend, but then again he might b able to. He says not to plan around him. I think we should stay with the 15th because it will be easier with regards to gettin kit and people up to wales.

The other option is to do it on the bank holiday weekend of may the 25th. Although I no jo and sion cant make that date. but can sion make it on the 15th either??? but the problem with that date is the weather peob wont b as good as in june. dont know what ppl think of that?? Im jus thinikin that may be better for old boys.

I think jro knows of a good beach, with good surf in south wales. there is also hells mouth in abersoch which is nice with good surf, although it may be a bit busier than the one jro is suggesting. we can make a decision on that whenever.

It should be a good weekend. We should try and round up a bbq and loads of beach games - volleyball, rounders etc etc, for when there is no surf. But apart from that I think we should just pray for good weather and we should be fine!!

As we are not going to the alps this year it would be good to get as many old boys/current members there as possible.

xxx
Claire

hello!!
could I come along??
only thing is I would need to borrow some kit
C xxx
Andy

I am not able to make the bank holiday weekend, so would have to stick with June.

Useless and Ricky are up for it too.

Devon or South Wales would be best for us southerners, as North Wales is a very long way from London.

Oh yeh - tell Sion and Catalogue to pull their fingers out and get themselves there!!

Andy
Emma

Yes all welcome...

im not sure exactly about kit, because I dont know if we will b able to get it bak in the store again at uni on the sunday (remember we hav this stupid new store where we hav to either go to the desk or get a porter to let us in) so we will hav to see if we're allowed a key. if not, we will hav to just take some boats but not enough for everyone??? unless we're takin the minibus??? not sure if can do that either??? me and jro I think are the only ones wiv cars here I think at the mo. I can take 4 boats and 5 ppl but jro wouldnt b able to take so many if he had boats in his car. we could always jus swap around wiv boats??? cus its prob not like we'll do a trip so everyone will jus b lazin around the beach anyway.

What are your thoughts???
J-Ro

yes
J-Ro

I love lamp
J-Ro

I've just had a look, and its 200 miles from birmingham to Tenby, so I guess its about 225 to Freshwater west, which is a great place to go, as noone goes there and its about 3 miles long, although I havnt been there for a few years so it could now be the location of the latest 18-30, in which case ricky wouldnt be able to come.....

any other suggestions......

surf trip

Hi Guys & Gals

Long time no speak! Hope alls well for everyone!

Dave and I think we can make the weekend of the 15th and would be quite up for a spot of surfing with u all. We will endeavour to buy a roofrack for the new black panther honda by then. Keep us updated! (should be getting ol t'internet in the house in the next couple of weeks so we can be on here like geeks after that! )

South wales we can make, north wales, I gues we would come via brum if someone wanted a lift.

Bye for now,

Emski & Mr Cow x
askewcj

mmmmmm, think Im free that weekend.
Reckon we'd only need a handful of boats as people can swap around.

Chris
Andy

Guess who feels stupid now...

I ahve just realised that I already have something else planned fro that weekend, 15-17th June! Damn.

Andy
Siôn

hey guys sorry 2 tell u all so late when I can't make it, havnt been on the forum for ages. I am busy 7-12th of June and the 15-17th of June and the same applies for Joe, any other weekend I am more than happy 2 make.

Cheers

Shags
Andy

We could always have more than one...

shag 'em, Catalgue - when do you start your placements?

Andy
J-Ro

Siôn wrote:
I can't make it

that was why we arranged it for that weekend!!!! Wink

andy, your bloody useless, priorities my friend.

the only problem is that after we leave uni its going to be really hard to get everyone togther, as people like AM and Emma, and potentially me will be on the east coast, which is about 6/7 hours from wales coast.

this is getting complicated........
J-Ro

what about the weekend before?? but that is guild on the grass weekend.
Andy

I can make the weekend before.

Guild on the grass - has anyone ever been and decided after that it was a day well spent??

Andy
martynr

Both weekend of the 9/10 and 16/17 are good for me.

However I would agree that the simple solution would be for Andy to correct his priorities.

Cheers
M
Emma

well personally I think that it would be best if everyone could come... I would like to go to guild on the grass, justbecuase iveheard good things about it and ivenexer been before.. However... there is currently a restructuring of the guild so its not even certain that guild on the grass will be on although it looks like its gunna b more likely now.

In regards to the easterers.... I think that we would get that sorted out and prob all get a lift down together and in te end it would be good if everyone could be there inc. joe and sion. And im sure we can get the travellin situation sorted out.

So what are ppl thinkin???

How do otther ppl feel about missin guild on the grass???

Should we organise a date in the summer that everyone can make???

Emma xxxxxx
Claire

guild on the grass is normally not the most exciting event in the world, I think if you missed a kayaking weekend for it you would probably regret it...
anyway Joe/Siôn when can you make it??
askewcj

I'd just like to add to the torrent of (deserved) abuse aimed at Andy.

Andy...sort you life, calendar, priorities and.... and.. and... your life out.

Rant over.

Chris
Andy

That was some very well aimed abuse Chris, but unfortunately I cannot get out of the thing I have planned for the weekend of the 16/17th June. It is something I volunteered for towards the end of last summer. I do agree that I need to have some kind of diary - I am constantly double-booking myself or forgetting important things!

I am up for having the trip at another time, but thought that it would be easier to organise it if most people were still around uni.

I would agree with Claire that Guild on the Grass has never been worth missing any paddling for (or anything else for that matter).

Andy
Emma

what u think nick/am????? bout missin guild on the grass???xxxx
Anne-Marie

Really not bothered about missing it - seems like ages since we've been for a bit of a paddle - except for mine and Muppet's night excursion on the lake. Just give me a bear and a boat and I'll be happy!
Andy

Anne-Marie wrote:

What the hell is the bear for???

Andy
Siôn

Hey guys,

right I am more than happy 2 go caus it would be a gr8 chance 2 say bye 2 ever1, except u jro u git after ur quote. I can't make 7 - 12th of June as I am In Niece and then on the 16th there as Party in The Park which me and Joe have alerady bought tickets for. If you can't rearange it its not the end of the world.

Where exactly in South Wales are you going? caus we will both be in Swansea so maybe we could come up the day after if u can't rearange it.

Peace out

xxx
Emma

spoke to nick... andy can u send a message round the old boys for goin on guild on the grass weekend (weekend of the 8th).

I dont think that we will ever get a date that everyone can go to, but this seems a weekend that the majoerity can make.

Thanks hope thats ok wiv everyone. sorry sion.... its really difficult but the thing is that u cant make either weekend and itgets even more complicaed after term ends, cus ppl hav otha commitments etc.

xxxxxx
Anne-Marie

Yeah...a bear - has anyone got a problem with me bringing a bear along for the ride?!?!
J-Ro

andy, have you got any idea on who is coming from the old boys yet?
Andy

What about location then? I reckon on Devon, since it offers a lot of options for us.

From the old boys: Me, Martyn, Ricky, Useless, Emma & Dave, Chris (I think). I ahve just sent out another email updating the date.

Andy
Emma

I dunno... devon is a long way from brum...... if we went to south wales its not too far from london or brum. but I really dont mind. xxx
Emma

its actually closer to devon. I jus looked on the internet. birmingham to Bideford is actually closer than birmingham to milford haven. so devon is a good possibility! where u thinkin bout in devon??? any good parts where we can camp on the beach???

xxxxxxxxxx
Andy

I was thnking along the lines of Woolacombe, Saunton or Croyde area.

So, Devon it is then. Next objective... accommodation. Camping? Any other suggestions, or recommendations of campsites?

Andy
Emma

Camp on the beach!!!!! definately and pray for good weather!!!! xxxx
Claire

Hello!!!
just wondering if anyone could give me a lift there? as far as I know theres no car space left from brum so has anyone else got any space for me??
I'm only small, I wont take up much room
xxx
Andy

Does anyone know of any good campsites in the Croyde / Woolacombe area?

We ought to try and book something (when I say we, I mean someone who isn't me).

Andy
Anne-Marie

we were just planning on kipping on the beach itself or behind some dunes or something. Otherwise it means that once we're at the campsite there's no midnight paddling etc - come Andy, sense of adventure - we don't need campites!
Andy

Camping is illegal on most beaches in the UK. I don't think a group of 10-15 of us will be inconspicouous on one of the popular Devon surfing breaches.

I think a campsite would still be preferable, what with having showers and toilets and the like.

Andy
Anne-Marie

Rough it up! Grrrrrr - and run from the police - it'll be fine!
e_e_c

camping

Yep, Campsite booking sounds like a plan. Most don't like large group bookings but if we decide on a site and call them individually to book it'll be cool. http://www.croyde-surf-cam.com/camping.htm seems to have plenty to choose from and most are close enough to the beach for the evenings entertainment, rather than making noise on the campsite. But sorry, our old bones - we need the showers now! x
e_e_c

camping

Can I suggest we go for http://www.croydebay.co.uk/ contact guy@croydebay.co.uk, doesn't look too pretentious. If we all book in our individual groups it should be cool. Anyone who still wants to camp on the beach... see you there!

..... must purchase roofrack! Anyone who wants a lift from the southern counties end of the country, most welcome.

Emsx
Emma

Just checked the weather, the sat looks ok, sun looks gd and so does mon... so hopefully it will be good.. anyone know of a gd beach which isnt too busy and shud get gd surf!???? xxxx
martynr

Camping

I'm not convinced that camping on the beach is the smartest plan, especially a group of our size. But hey, don't let me stop you.

For the rest of you.

Em, Have you emailed this chap? I'm don't think the site u refer to is actually open the weekend we require. See http://www.croydebay.co.uk/opening_dates.html

I'll have a look for something else tomorrow. But don't e have a secretary to organise this kind of thing?

Cheers
M
Andy

Not long to go now folks....

A couple of questions though...

1. Has anyone thought about the tent situation? Ruda campsite seems to charge per tent, so the more we can fit in each tent the cheaper it will work out to be. I could probably fit another 2-3 people in my tent, or alternatively does anyone have a spare space in their tent that I could fill?

2. Has anyone (Apart from Chris Askew) booked the camping?

Hope everyone's exams are going / have gone well.

# AM and nick can u drop ur boat and paddles and kit wiv us???? when ??

# What time are ppl gettin there on fri nite???

# What about campin and crystal palace, and hav u sorted out a camp site???

We're thinkin bbq on the beach + sesh on fri nite. But what time. Food s bring your own for the whole weekend as it will b easier.

Morning,

In answer to your qs.

# WHich beach would be best to go to... we're not really sure how to find out which beach wil hav good surf, does anyone hav any ideas??

Croyde is one of the best, but keep an eye on A1Surf.com

# Who has got a bbq??? Can u bring it? There is some for sale in tesco for about 7 pounds + the price of coals etc. We could all chip in and buy it for the club??

I do, and it is possible I could bring it. Andy, please confirm that there is room in your car.

# What time are ppl gettin there on fri nite???

Not 100% sure, but would think it would be between 10 and 11pm.

# What about campin and crystal palace, and hav u sorted out a camp site???

Chris has booked one for a few of the grads. Will book that when I get a mo.

We're thinkin bbq on the beach + sesh on fri nite. But what time. Food s bring your own for the whole weekend as it will b easier.

I don't think that most of the grads will be down in time for a bbq inc me. So prob best you buy a bbq if you want a bbq fri night.

See you Fri

M
Andy

I am pretty sure that there will be space in my little car for a BBQ Martyn!

I will give you a call later to organise stuff.

Andy
