New Kit

Hey guys,

hows everything? wow - seems like ages since I was on here. anyway - hope all the uni stuff is going alright and the exams are treating you all okay! when do you all finish?

anyway - it seems that there is going to be some money available from the guild for new kit - and as such myself and amy are going to prepare a proposal asap (I guess the sonner we get in there the more chance there is of us getting stuff).

so...as we haven't ventured into the store for the best part of a year now - what do you guys think we need more of???

j-ro mentioned that he thinks we are in desperate need of new paddles - so we'll stick that on the list. what do you guys think of the paddles we bought last year - cos we got quite a god deal on them and I think they were definitely a lot better than the white freeblades.

do we need a new boat?

from what I remember we could do with a few decent helmets as our collection wasn't amazing.

throwlines and safety kit I THINK we are okay with - I could be wrong though (but we bought a few throwlines and knives last year I remember).

spray decks - we've had enough the last couple of years I think and I guess most guys returning next year have their own so it'll mainly be freshers.

cags - we don't have any good cags (I think we have 2 good cags but amy disputes this) - so maybe we need some of these.

wetboots and thermals (shags do you think we need any boot...boot...boots). I know most people have their own of these anyway but it may be a good idea to get a few for freshers for first trips (a warm fresher is much morelikely to stay with the club than one that is freezing their arse off in north wales!!). We can get these pretty cheap in france so maybe we can bring some of these back to england with us.

wetsuits - I think we are okay for these (?!)

I think thats it kayaking wise!

non kayaking wise - we still have the mighty crystal palace (that is the big tent thing for those who weren't in the alps last year) I trust and hopefully Mr. A is doing alright?

So....post away with your opinions guys and we will get a proposal drawn up.

lots of kayaking love from steve and amy (your chair and stool to be)

Hm, definitely new paddles - those Robson paddles were good.
Prob a pair or two of boots
We've got a multitude of throw lines, but havn't seen any knives.

Ok, not sure what the general consensus is; but there was thought to have a proper safety course, or something. I don't know how much they cost, but I know a level 5 coach who has offered to do it and some grades if we wanted, and who's only request is that he we take him out and get him rip roaring drunk. J-Ro said something about the guild may pay for things if it's to improve the safety of trips etc - if that's the case, it could be an idea.

I'm sure we can go and get someone absolutely smashed in exchange for a safety course..,in fact how about we get him so drunk that we tell him we've already paid for the course Wink

hehe - yeah I think the guild may be able to help us out with something like that - good idea

we bought a handfull of knives when we bought the throw lines last year - I guess they are knockin around somewhere - prob in someones BA pocket!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy

The guild should ahve a safety budget which we can apply for funding from to do stuff like safety. If you are crafty (like I was) then you can also put some kit purchases down as safety kit (BAs, ropes, knives, slings, Krabs etc)

The green Robson paddles in the store are not club paddles - the are personal paddles that have been left in the store. I am seeing the owner of them in a couple of weeks and remind them that they are there.

hey, whih paddles were bought last year???? I think whatever paddles you get, it is important for them to be bright... might stop some bein lost!!

we have got knives, I saw them when we were movin the hut.

Need helmuts

The decks arent too bad.. if your a fat person... may want to consider gettin some or at least 1 more smaller ones.

Boats I think are ok, although depends how much money u think u can get.... cus some boats arnt lookin too gd..

Anyway all sounds gd, ill get jro to put down what he thinks we need.

hope france is treatin u well!!! xxx

The paddles we got last year were the bright orange Ainsworhts. They cost about £45 each so a lost set does not cost so much. They are good blades to paddle with too, especially for the price. I would aggree that whatever paddles the club gets need to be very bright, especailly with the paddlers that the club will have next year Wink

I think that they the N102 Side-Kicks , which are these ones:

J-Ro

all those ainsworths have gone. joe broke one and I think the rest vanished in the alps!!

I would suggest getting the freeblades from west mids canoe as we still seem to have quite a lot of them. the gollilas seem to have a habit of breaking as well but that might just be because they are really old.

spraydecks. again if we have a load of of obese people join we will be fine, I would want to get some more though if we're planning on getting thin people to join. Peak freestyle decks are prob the best ones I have ever used, but require a bit of muscle to put on.

as for safety courses, I am planning on sending you guys a list of all the dates for stuff that I missed this year but would be good to go on. especially now I have found out the guild should pay entrance fees and potentially help out with transport costs when you go to compete.

It might be worth going to primark at some point and buying a whole load of fleeses just to get the freshers to put on under the kit to keep them warm. I know we always tell them to get their own but they never do.

think we're sorted for everything else.

oh, and if you fancy doing a trip in sept or freshers fair is before the second of october then I might be able to help out or something

Hey,

what about a few neoprene skull caps? Not too much and might prevent an upside fresher getting brain freeze and running for the hills.

hey stevo and aimz,

sorry for the late reply but havnt been on the forum for ages but have some info that might help.

New paddles I think are the biggest priority, we've lost some and we could do with some new ones for next year for the freshers so they should be no. 1 priority.

Getting a couple of helmets wouldn;t be a bad idea. Safety and spray decks are fine but two areas you should think about getting some new CAGS and maybe if u have enough money some Boots.

We did have one decent CAG but someone (ok me) ripped the cloth on it and now it lets water through alot. Sorry! There are no other gd Cags other than the one I 'damaged.' If u do want 2 buy some gd cags, I remember when me, AM, and joe went to the Outdoor show - we bought Cags in bulk and got a pretty gd discount.

This year, before I bought my own, I had 2 wear 2 odd boots, Tom (2nd year who went 2 the AU Ball and got smashed), had 2 buy some cheapy trainers 2 wear whilst in the boat caus he couldn't find any that fit him. There are no boots in the store room. Wetsuits we can manage ok with on wot we got.

So, Stevo and Aimz - def. get some new paddles and a couple of decent Cags wouldn't go amiss either.

Right thats about it really, sorry if its 2 late and ive only repeated wot evry1else has said but its the thought that counts!
