I take it we're flying BA club class.
how are we getting to luton?

Caz, Amz and Andy
I dont want to rub it in Caz but I'd just like to 'oint out a few travel facts as I feel its my duty, what with being in the logistics industry I feel it my duty to enlighten you with a few high level, rather depressing figures. Having planned the trip already you might already know this.
THE FLYING OPTION
If you're lucky enough to fly to the alps, here is a possible travel itinerary.
Leave Brimingham via car/train: 12:00
Arrive Luton Airport: 13:30.
Allow 1 hr for checking and fly at 14:40.
Roughly 2 hr flight
Arrive Turin: 15:40 taking into account the time difference.
Allow 1 hr mincing and hire car collection.
16:40 leave Turin.
Approx 2 hr drive to Embrun allowing extra 30 min for buying essential supplies enroute I.e. BEER
Arrive campsite approx 19:30....tents up and start necking loads of beer!
THE VAN OPTION
Assuming you leave Birmingham at 12:00 also.
Leave Birmingham: 12:00
Arrive Dover: approx 16:00
Assume a 17:00 boarding time on the ferry to allow for any breakdowns and mincing etc.
Approx 1 hr crossing on the choppy channel. Crew of van may take on feeling of feeling a little sea sick.
Dirve off boat around 18:00...pull up in layby not far from the port to recover from sea sickness...assume 30 minutes min.
Current time, aronud 18:30 - 18:45. The flying crew will be there almost at this 'oint; most of them drinking beer in the back of the bus whilst the driver slogs out the last 20 - 30 miles
By my reckoning it's about 650 miles to Embrun from Calais; travelling at an average speed of 70mph...that's an ave speed...it should take you around 9hr 15min (providing no breakdowns occur. Which they wont coz you wont have the guild minibus). This travel time assumes the occupants of the vehicle dont stop at all for rest breaks or for refuelling.
Taking into account current driver legislation; this means for a 9hr 15 min drive time you should have to take 2 breaks both being 45mins...adding another 1hr 30min.
However, we all know the mincing factor is likely to increase as tiredness sets in so, allow for 2hr - 3 hrs for rest breaks.
However; for all those who have driven to The Alps in the past know that the alps roads dont allow you to maintain an ave speed of 70mph, although many of us have tried So for the last 2hrs of the drive time I suggest this is increased by a factor of 2, making drive time a total of 11hr 30min, plus 2 - 3 hrs of breaks = Total of 14hr 30mins.
Going by these estimates Caz; I think you'll be arriving at the campsite at just the right time to make us all a cup of coffee in the morning to help sober us all up.
I reckon we should be saying hello to you guys around 09:15 the next day with the sweet aroma of Nescafe wafting through the air....ahhh. I dare say the van trio may want a rest at this point.
So CAZ here is my thought I have spared for you guys...I hope this hasnt made you feel too bad

RIGHT EDWARD! firstly, your job mustn't be that taxing seeing as you were able to write that rather long reply in the middle of the afternoon- you may not be a student anymore but it seems old habits die hard, slacker!
Secondly, there will be NO coffee making when we get there! I expect a lovely cold beer on arrival to take the stresses of being a white van girl driver away.... the french drivers and roads are guaranteed to give me a little road rage.
Thirdly, we're getting a top-of-the-range mercedes van so we'll be whizzzing away!
And Jethro, no you will not be travelling BA club class! not, unless you're willing to pay extra...which I doubt very much!
Any more abuse to the van drivers and we may 'accidentally misplace' certain pieces of luggage/boats.....
mwah hahahahaha

Caz, logisitics is my job so its my business to know these things in minute detail and regurgertate them in fine depth.
Secondly; yes you may have a nice cold beer, providing it hasnt been left in the sun all morning....so then you'll just have to neck it hot.
Thirdly; it must be done in a funnel along with several more beers
And fourthly; I think flying BA club class is a great idea and I think the club should look after its older members...
I thank you
Love ya all...yee haaa

cazzabelle

Ed, unfortunately there are no concessions for the elderly.. you'll just have to slum it like the rest of the club... don't forget your werthers originals grandad....

Jethro,
My Paddling experience consists of, one trip to Mile end Mile no swimming involved, two roles.... so no wouldn't exactly consider myself to be expert
Looking forwards to the Alps tho
|
J-Ro

mate, if I was you I would get on a few more trips. the water is looking to be quite high this year, and you dont want to break into double figures on a swim tally.
a bit of general knowledge.
Who swam the most time on one river last year in the alps? was it lou or lou?
|
lulu
|
I think you will find the compititon was between claire and I.
louise got off rivers when she swam too much I think you will find.
Claire was it you or me, I think my best was the race course. 20 million if I remember rightly, now there is somehting to beat...

took most people a while jethro - in fact 'shag em' only worked it out a few weeks ago when he suddenly realised who - Gareth (timmy) was in his phone book
|
timmy
|
tis true!!!
andy struggled to think who I ACTUALLY was when he booked the flights. Plus steve wondered why it said gaz on my hoodie then when told that it was my name said "well yeah.....but not REALLY...." I even introduce myself as timmy now if there are any other beavers about....
and I'm sure you've met matt before J-ro.
plus I didnt know we shag em had me under gareth in his phone book??!! I'v text him before and he knew who it was then....whoo its good to be back in brum and on REAL msn instead of the crappy mobile version
|
cazzabelle
|
Jethro, Matt was the one you rescued from the bridge at Llangollen when he and Shag em swam on town falls... the one who cut his foot.
|
J-Ro
|
oh yeah I forgot about that. if you actually wrote the report then I'd be able to read about me being a "HERO!!!"
|
cazzabelle
|
I've nearly finished it!! I have had work to do y'know!
|
Claire
|
On the alps swim tally last year, between Lu and me, I think Lu swam more than me but I think that Louise swam more than both of us. I think she had swam at least 5 times before she got off about half way down the racecourse
On the racecourse I swam 4 times. I think I had about 10 swims over the two weeks.
