Anyone in Birmingham?

Hey,

So I've got to head back to Birmingham on Friday for a bit of Christmas shopping, and for my last (I hope) hospital appointment.

Probably going to be a bit bored around lunchtime, so anyone that's still around fancy meeting up for a quick drink and a bit of food?

Emma

And it's good news.

The Physio discharged me today, and gave me the all-clear to resume activities!

Here's looking forward to getting back in the water in January!  Very Happy

That's great news Tim. However, you do realise that the water in January will be bloody freezing!! I would go back and see if he can't take it back and wait until the water is warmer before giving you a proper 'all clear'!!

Haha, good point mate.

I guess it'll just be in the pool though, unless Steve & Amy have any day trips planned before Devon in Febuary? Hopefully they do, although with exams and such, maybe not  Smile

Great news!

And the 13th is the day after my last exam, so would make nice relief! Although, I think I can make any of those dates.  Very Happy

Just thinking about Devon. Would it not be better just to do something like the Nene Whitewater Centre as your guarenteed fairly decent water, it's less of a journey and is guarenteed to cater for freshers and more advanced paddlers. Good place to teach freshers techniques too.
We may get no waves at Devon or the complete opposite; huge, man eating waves which will be no good!
Just a thought!
Anne-Marie

nene sounds good but we still have to do a weekend away in devon!
Emma

wait im confused - thought we were goin away to devon what is it 2nd week in feb?? xxx
Jamie

Devon is still planned for that weekend yeah but I was just bringing up the suggestion of the nene instead because in feb the sea in Devon could be very trashy. Whereas the nene is definately going to cater for everyone, meaning that everyone can get something out of it.

Emma

I dont think theyre thinking sea more rivers. and the rivers should be good I would think and hope in feb.

Nene is a def possibility for a day trip tho!!! the nene is ok for like a day but any more than a few hours it gets a bit boring I think. good for a day tho.

lucky you, my exams haven't even started by the 13th.

I heard that the nene are quite likely to require us to have qualified coaches if we turn up in a group. I agree it is quite good for learning skills though.

Anyways I'm sure Stevo and Amy have got it all under control.

There are loads of rivers in the South West which are possibilities, but we tend to focus aroudnd the Dart, especially the middle 'Loop' section. If you want to have a browse of what other rivers are available, have a look at this - UK Rivers Guidebook

Jethros beat me too it, but I'm so angered I'm posting anyway.

The Nene is crap, go away find a quiet corner and think about what you have posted.  Freshers will have much more fun on the Dart.
Jamie

Fair play I agree with you guys, the rivers round Devon are much better than the Nene; I only sed it as I origionally thought (for reasons beyond me) that we were going on the sea  Embarassed
Claire

So are we not goin on the sea?
Emma

No!!! its not summer!!! the rivers wil be good!!! fingers crossed!!! xxx
Anne-Marie

I WANT TO GO SURFING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But am also up for a bit of slap and tickle on the rivers so really don't mind. But if water levels are debatable can we head over for a bit of a surf - beats a bony river where rolling isn't an option.

Lots of Beaver Lovin'

stepheneagles

hopefully we'll get a bit of both!! I not done devon trip before so am up for a bit of surf action as well as river!

the trip hasn't exactly been planned in any way shape or form yet so everything is possible!
Andy

If there is enough water in the rivers, I reckon that we should make the most of it and do rivers both days and save the surf for a separate trip sometime when it is a bit warmer and relaxing on the beach between rides is not going to leave you with hypothermia. If there is not a great deal of water in the local rivers then surfing is possible - depending on where we end up staying.

In previous years we have managed to organise something with Exeter uni guild (in advance) and get onto the guest list for the Saturday night - something to think about?
