DISCLAIMER: Apologies, the length of this rivals my dissertation!

Hello Everyone,

I think I have met you all, but if not my name’s Emma… or Flasher… or Pittamess (my least favourite!!.) I am usually the one on paddling trips getting pinned on rocks, beating up boys or crazily drunk. (sometimes all at once) But apart from that I am immensely passionate about the Aston Beavers and kayaking as a whole and I think that I could make a great Chair next year.

We have some amazing talent in the club, with dedicated (to be) second years, fantastic final years and committed old boys. The main objective of my time as Chair is to get everyone working together, to get a many trips going as possible to ensure everyone has a great year.

Some of the main objectives I would have are:

+ Regular trips – This would involve a trip every other week, whether that is an afternoon trip or day trip to places such as Newark Weir, Holme Pier Pont or my personal favourite the Trywerwyn (showers!!!) or weekend trips to Wales, Devon or the Lake District.

+ Socials – Paddling pub crawl, regular seshes etc.. etc..

+ New club merchandise. – We can get some really nice ‘soft shell’ jackets with our logos on etc for about £30ish. We could even try and get some Primani dressing gowns to compete with Bristol next year at polo!

+ Giving some focus to pool sessions – With my coaching experience (before uni) and GB agreeing to help but some structure to pool sessions we would like to put people through BCU star tests. This would provide some focus and objective to pool sessions as well as everyone improving their strokes

+ Collaboration with Birmingham Uni – Birmingham Uni are a great group of ppl and I think they could really add something to the club. The collaboration would more than likely be within polo and also socials rather than Wales trips

+ Joe and Shags have done a fantastic job this year of hopefully securing around £10,000 of lottery money, I would work closely to spend both that money and also any guild money to the benefit of the club.

+ Sponsorship of seshs’ – We will find a pub to give us cheap drinks! And hopefully someone to sponsor our mechandice.

+ The Alps!!! – Possibly the best couple of weeks of the year, this will be definitely running next year. Sun, drinking, paddling, more sun what could be better!!!

+ Attending BUSA events – Where possible I think we should attend as many Busa events as possible, they’re a good laugh but also the guild pays for them!!

+ Polo – With regular practice and support, we could rival Nottingham next year Wink

These are some of my suggestions, however this is YOUR club as much as mine and running the club cannot be done on my own. Through my leadership and your input we should be able to work to everyone’s strengths to make 2009-10 the best year the Beavers have ever had!!!
